Abstract

Cooling system comprising: a reciprocating or piston compressor; an electric motor to move the compressor; a capacitor; a control responsive to the saturation condition of the refrigerant on the lower or lower side of the system to maintain essentially a predetermined pressure at the inlet of the compressor; and an evaporator; said compressor, condenser, control and evaporator being placed in the system in said order; characterized by the system having the compressor a cylinder set or predetermined residual volume of compression such that, when the piston of the compressor makes its downward stroke, the new expansion of compressed gaseous refrigerant occurs to a degree in which the total weight of gaseous refrigerant enters the compressor varies in magnitude such that essentially maintains the workload imposed on the electric motor.
