434,535. Typewriters &c. UNDERWOOD ELLIOTT FISHER, Ltd., and COOPER, J. J., 120, Queen Victoria Street, London. March 8, 1934, No. 7415. [Class 100 (iv)] Line-spacing mechanism. In a typewriting or listing machine, the line-spacing movement is automatically varied at predetermined intervals by means of a lever which is operated by a cam rotating with the platen, and controls engagement of the line - spacing pawl with its ratchet - wheel. In the mechanism shown in the Figure, a linespacing pawl 13 on a rocking arm 16 cooperates with a ratchet-wheel 12 on the platenshaft 11, spacing being adjusted by means of a finger-lever 20 having a cam 21 co-operating with a roller 22 on the pawl. The finger-lever is now provided with a roller 24 co-operating with a cam 25 secured to the platen-shaft and formed with circular parts 27, 28, and diametrically opposite notches 30. Normally, the roller 24 rides on the cam-part 27 or 28, and the cam 21 permits single-line-spacing. After ten single line-spaces, the roller 24 drops into one of the notches 30, the cam 21 is displaced, and the pawl effects triple linespacing. The position and length of the notches are varied to alter the sequence of the multiple line-spaces. Specification 340,782 is referred to.
