Abstract
Oxazine dyestuffs are prepared by condensing a hydroxycarbazole having a free ortho position to the hydroxy group, with a nitroso benzene having an alkylated amino group in the para position and a free ortho position to the nitroso group. In examples: (1) 2-hydroxycarbazole is condensed with nitroso dimethylaniline hydrochloride in boiling alcohol: the resulting oxazine dyestuff dyes tanned cotton blue shades; (2) p-nitrosodiethanolaniline hydrochloride is condensed with 2-hydroxycarbazole, 9-methyl-2-hydroxycarbazole, and 2-hydroxy-3-carboxycarbazole. Samples have been furnished under Sect. 2 (5) of products obtained by condensing nitrosodiethanolaniline hydrochloride with 2-hydroxy-7 : 8-benzocarbazole, 2-hydroxy-5 : 6-dihydro-7 : 8-benzocarbazole, 1-hydroxycarbazole, and 1 : 8 - dihydroxycarbazole and nitroso - m-hydroxydiethylaniline with 3-hydroxycarbazole. 2 - Hydroxy - 7 : 8 - benzocarbazole, 2 - hydroxy, 2 - hydroxy - 5 : 6 - dihydro - 7 : 8 - benzocarbazole and 1 : 8-dihydroxycarbazole may be prepared by the process described in Specification 303,520, [Class 2 (iii)]. Specifications 303,901, [Class 2 (iii)], and 372,301 also are referred to.
