[Class 119] Relates to drop-down small-arms of the kind in which the lock or cocking mechanism operates to effect self-opening of the gun on withdrawal of the barrel-locking means According to the invention, a compression lever 11 is provided pivoted co-axially with the hammer 10, the fore end of the lever engaging the barrel and its rear end directly engaging the main spring 14 and overhanging a heel 10<b> on the hammer to turn the hammer into cocked position when the barrel is opened. On closing the barrel, the lever 11 is turned by a projection 12 on the barrel and puts the main spring in compression, the hammer being prevented from moving by its engagement with the sear 16. On releasing the barrel-lock 18, the spring 14 acts through the lever 11 and projection 12 to open the breech. The rear end of the lever 11 is forked as shown in plan in Fig. 5 to surround the hammer and has a crossbar 11<c> to engage the spring and the heel 10<b> on the hammer. The invention may be applied to double-barrelled guns.
