Abstract
388,547. Air rifles. WEBLEY & SCOTT, Ltd. and STATHAM, A. E., 81, Weaman Street, Birmingham. Jan. 21, 1932, No. 1828. [Class 119.] Relates to air rifles and the like in which the compression of the air for the discharge of the missile is effected by a spring-loaded piston 4, which is cocked by a pivoted lever, or by the barrel 2 pivotally mounted at A to act as a lever, for example by means of a link 6 attached to a sliding block 7 in engagement with a slot 4c in the piston, the piston being held cocked by the sear, for example a block 8 at the end of a lever 10 pressed by a spring against the trigger 11. According to the invention, a safety sear 12 is provided to hold the piston up if the trigger is accidentally pulled before the cocking operation is completed, the safety sear 12 being pivoted at 13 and urged by a spring to engage a bent 4b on the piston as soon as this is cocked and until the operating lever or barrel 2 is returned to the normal position, when the lever rocks the safety sear out of action. The barrel 2 may be mounted as described in Specification 388,548.
