Abstract

Sliding-clasp fasteners with the interlocking members, the end stops, and the slider, made of non-metallic material such as celluloid are rendered non-inflammable by applying a thin film of a non-inflammable material of the kind which evolves combustion-suppressing gases when heated. For instance a chlorinated rubber composition is sprayed thereon, the stringer tapes being protected by masks; if necessary a bonding coating is applied previously. The bonding composition may be a gelatine or synthetic resin solution, examples of which are given. The chlorinated rubber solution contains blown linseed oil, a plasticizer such as dibutyl phthalate, and a solvent adapted to act on the surface of the celluloid members. According to the first Provisional Specification sodium silicate or a solution of antimony trichloride in amyl acetate may be used and the tapes may also be treated.ALSO:Sliding-clasp fasteners with the interlocking members, the end stops, and the slider, made of non-metallic material such as celluloid are rendered non-inflammable by applying a thin film of a non-inflammable material of the kind which evolves combustion-suppressing gases when heated.
