Abstract
Cut timber and wood products generally are protected against mildew and other fungoid growths by spraying or brushing with, or immersion in a suspension or emulsion obtained by dispersing in water a solution of an arylamide of salicylic acid in an organic solvent and an admixed dispersing-agent compatible with the organic solvent. In examples, salicylanilide is dissolved respectively in b -ethoxyethyl alcohol, methyl alcohol, and pine oil, the solution being mixed with Turkey red oil and diluted with water for use. Other known compatible wood-preserving agents, e.g. creosotes, cresylic acids &c. may be added to the concentrated mixtures. Specifications 323,579, [Class 81 (i)], and 350,642 are referred to.
