[Class 60] [See also Group XXII] A vertical grinding-machine for treating railway-wheel tyres w or the like has two compound tool rests A, B, comprising lower slides which are horizontally adjustable by a screw 4 and upper slides 7, 7<1> which are vertically adjustable and are provided with long guides for bar-shaped cutter-holders, the slides 7, 7<1> being adjusted so that only the lower ends of the cutter holders enter the interior of the work. The tools in the rest A turn the cylindrical surfaces w<1>, w<2> of the work while those in the rest B cut the spring ring groove w<3> and shoulder w<4>. A third rest C for a grinding disc 54 may be mounted between the rests A, B, the slide being extended laterally to carry a vertical slide 55 on which the motor 56 and grinding spindle 57 are mounted. After the cutter holders carried by the rests A, B have been moved upwards out of the work, the slide 55 is lowered by hand or automatically for grinding the turned surfaces without resetting the work.
