A boring and milling-machine comprises a bed 4 slidable on a portion 2 of a bed-plate 1 and having slidable thereon an upright 6 on which is vertically slidable a slide 8 carrying a horizontally-movable boring and milling headstock 9 to the front face of which is secured a turning head 10 in which is mounted a vertically-movable tool-carrying ram 11, and the bed-plate has mounted therein a motor-driven rotary work-carrying plate 12, a spider member 21 being provided for larger work-pieces. The bed, upright, slide, and headstock are moved by motor-driven screw means. In a modification, Figs. 4 and 5 (not shown), the work-table comprises a circular central plate and an annular peripheral plate. The annular plate may be driven by the central plate or driven independently so that the operator may stand on the central plate, which is held stationary, and control the machining operation by means of a portable control set. An openside planing machine may be obtained by adding to the machine an assembly consisting of a planing machine bed and table fitted on the bed plate. Specifications 661,879 and 661,880 are referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91, comprises also a machine, Figs. 10 to 12 (Cancelled, not shown), in which a carriage supporting a tool-carrying ram is slidable horizontally on a swingable arm, the carriage having clamped therewithin first a ram carrying a vertical turning tool, then a boring ram. The arm is then swung into its retracted position and the boring headstock fitted with a drilling head. The Specification as " open " further comprises the subject-matter of Specifications 687,334 and 687,335. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
