430,549. Vehicle spring-suspensions; axles. STEEL WHEEL CORPORATION, 1060, The Rookery Building, Chicago, U.S.A. Jan. 12, 1934, No. 19086. Convention date, Jan. 14, 1933. Divided out of 430,512. [Class 108 (ii)] [See also Group XXXI] Each of the independently suspended wheels of a motor &c. vehicle is supported upon the ends of one or more transverse axle sections or arms, the inner ends of which are yieldingly mounted in compressed rubber blocks in rigid sockets that are in alignment with the arms. In the construction shown, each wheel 46 is carried by upper and lower arms 47, 48 of which the lower arms 48 are Y-shaped in plan view, and the inner ends of the three limbs are stamped to an H-section, Fig. 7, and held between compressed blocks 49 of rubber or like resilient material in sockets 36 having caps 50 that are tightened by bolts or equivalent members 51. Conveniently, the semi-axles are formed by welding together the edges of two stamped steel parts either of single or double channel section. The suspension is preferably used to take up heavier shocks in association with large section lowpressure tyres adapted to absorb the lighter shocks. Specification 430,512 is referred to.
