Abstract
430,528. Overload - release clutches. ANDERSON, A., and ANDERSON, BOYES, & CO., Ltd., Flemington Electrical Works, Motherwell, Lanarkshire. March 21, 1934, No. 8823. [Class 80 (ii)] The driven element 1 of a dog clutch, normally engaged with a driving element 3 splined on the driving shaft 5, is capable, upon overload, of limited rotarary motion, determined by a pin 10 engaging an arcuate groove, about a sleeve 6 secured to the driven shaft 2, against the resistance of a torsion spring 11 having its ends secured to the members 1 and 6 respectively. Cam surfaces 14 formed on the members 3 and 6 coact so that, at overload, the clutch is disengaged. A lever 15, Fig. 4, is connected at one end to a ring 17 engaging a groove 18 in the element 3, and at the other end the lever carries a roller riding on a V-shaped spring 19, which tends to hold the clutch either engaged or disengaged.
