Abstract

430,372. Track-relay signalling systems. PETER, L. H., and WESTINGHOUSE BRAKE & SAXBY SIGNAL CO., Ltd., 82, York Road, King's Cross, London. March 17, 1934, No. 8453. [Class 105] Operation of the track relay by an inter-rail voltage arising from any ripple component in unbalanced return traction current in the two rails is prevented by providing in the connection to the track relay a neutralizing voltage derived from the unbalanced return traction current Where the unbalanced state is constant the neutralizing voltage may be provided by an inductor placed near the power rail or one of the track rails or around one of the connections to the usual inductance bond at the end of the section. Fig. 6 shows an arrangement in which each rail connection 19, 20 of the bond 5 is surrounded by an inductor 17, 18 so that whatever the state of unbalance of the traction current the correct neutralizing voltage in the line to the relay winding 9 is provided by the windings 21, 22. Fig. 7 shows an arrangement in which the neutralizing voltage is provided by a single inductor 25 energized by the differential effect of the unbalanced traction currents in the two connections 19, 20 to the bond 5. Tuning condensers may be fitted.
