[Class 146 (iii)] [See also Group XVI] A transfer ink, adapted to be printed by lithography or an equivalent process on to paper and to be transferred without the assistance of water or other liquid to leather, fabric, or other flexible and extensible material, or to enamelled iron or wood, or a surface coated with a cellulose paint or lacquer, consists of a resin and a softener mixed and ground together with colouring-materials, and a working-medium or thinner which is added in sufficient proportions dependent on the temperature. The resin may be ordinary or fine resin, or dammar gum ; white wax, tallow, spermaceti, castor oil, or linseed oil, alone or mixed with benzyl alcohol or venice turpentine may 'be employed as the softener; and the working-medium may be resin and benzyl alcohol or venice turpentine with or without the addition of castor oil, boiled linseed oil, or tallow and a small proportion of a drier such as a mixture of a manganese salt and sugar of lead ground in linseed oil. According to examples, colour or pigment is mixed with (a) fine resin, white wax, tallow, and benzyl alcohol, and thinned with a mixture of resin, benzyl alcohol, and castor oil ; (b) resin, white wax, tallow, and venice turpentine, and thinned with a mixture of resin and venice turpentine; (c) dammar gum, spermaceti, and benzyl alcohol, and thinned with resin and benzyl alcohol; and (d) resin, benzyl alcohol, castor oil, and boiled linseed oil, a thinner being added.
