Abstract
430,025. Loud-speakers. BOONTON RESEARCH CORPORATION, Boonton, New Jersey, U.S.A. Dec. 12, 1933, No. 34945. Convention date, June 14. [Class 40 (iv)] [See also Group XL] Electro - acoustic apparatus, more particularly a loud-speaker, comprises a piezo-electrically active crystal diaphragm 1, Fig. 1, clamped between gaskets 5, 6 across the throat of a horn 2 provided with a bullet-shaped insert 8. The protective cover 10 also houses the transformer 9 within a sealing compound 11 together with sound absorbing material 12. The diaphragm, Fig. 4, comprises four square crystal units secured together along contiguous edges, each unit consisting of a pair of superposed plates cut from Rochelle Salt with their flat faces normal to the electrical axis. The plates are assembled with an electrode between their adjacent faces and electrodes at their outer faces, the four units being connected in parallel as shown. The loud-speaker preferably has a resonant frequency above 7000 cycles and circuit arrangements are described for controlling the frequency response characteristic. Specification 409,040 is disclaimed.
