Abstract
A sheet of paint having a larger proportion of oil, e.g linseed oil, than is usual in paints, is provided with a non-textile backing to form thick pliable sheet-material which is easily cut. A composition prepared by grinding pigment in linseed oil and adding a mixture of turpentine with resin dissolved in boiled oil is applied by spraying to a smooth sheet of glass, glue is applied to the composition when set, and a temporary fabric support is attached to the glue by means of adhesive. The compound material is then stripped off the glass, after which the fabric is removed; the material may finally be strengthened by applying thin celluloid. A rough surface may be used instead of smooth glass, in which case a priming-coat is applied first, the backing next, and the paint last. In an alternative process, a temporary fabric-support is laid on a sheet of glass, glue is applied to the fabric, and the paint is applied to the glue, the material being stripped off and the fabric removed as before. The material may be used for covering metal, wood, &c., and decorative or other display matter may be painted on the material. By applying the composition to a shaped surface, a moulded effect may be produced.
