Abstract

428,466. Valves. PARKINSON & COWAN (GAS METERS), Ltd., and HUNT, J. S.. Grosvenor Gardens, Victoria, London. Nov. 13, 1933, No. 31554. [Class 135] In a gas valve, the valve member or the valve seat is supported by means of a concentrically corrugated metal diaphragm capable of yielding to allow the valve member and the seat to align with one another independently of the valve operating spindle or member. Alternatively, both the valve member and the valve seat may be supported by such a diaphragm. The valve member a, Fig. 3, is supported on the operating member d by a corrugated diaphragm b<1>, the edge b of which embraces the member a and holds a leather facing c in place. A yielding valve seat is provided by the end portion of a corrugated metal cylinder e. An alternative form .of valve seat has a plain cylindrical surface and a corrugated flange by which it is resiliently supported. This form of seat may be employed with the resiliently mounted valve member shown in Fig. 3. Fig. 4 shows a gas governor in which the stem g is connected to the main valve member i by a perforated corrugated diaphragm h. A pilot valve on the stem has a spherical seating g<1> in the main valve member which seats before the pilot valve. According to the Provisional Specification, the valve member may be connected to its operating member by a volute spring.
