Abstract

428,296. Packeting - machines. HALL, C. T., and MOLINS MACHINE CO., Ltd., 2, Evelyn Street, Deptford, London. Nov. 10, 1933, No. 31400. [Class 94 (i)] In apparatus for opening cartons for filling, the collapsed cartons are supported on a central rail 3 in a magazine 2 with the open ends transverse to the direction in which they are to be moved. A series of pockets 5 on chains 6 are moved intermittently or continuously beneath the magazine, and an abutment 8 on the rear wall 7 of each pocket engages and removes the lowest shell. After the shell has been moved clear of the rail 3, a spring 9 presses upon it so that the rear edge falls, as shown on the left, Fig. 1, and the front edge is supported by the front wall. The front edge contacts with an angle member 10, movable relatively to the pocket, and is initially supported in the angle thereof by a fixed guide 22. The member 10 moves to the relative position shown in Fig. 5, the pressure causing the carton to open, and then moves downwards so that it is completely squared. When the movement of the chains 6 is intermittent, the opening takes place during a rest, the member 10 being carried on a link 12 carried by cam-operated cranks 13, 14.
