427,823. Dynamos. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London.-(Assignees of Barry, J. C. ; 628, W. 10 Street, Erie, Pennsylvania, U.S.A.) Dec. 5, 1933, No. 34197. Convention date, Dec. 8, 1932. [Class 35] Exciting.-In a petrol-electric drive or similar arrangement in which the generator 11 must deliver constant power at constant speed with a variable load the poles of the exciter are divided into two parts, 14, 15, both of which are wound with two windings, one, 19, in series with the load and the other, 16, from a source of constant voltage 17. The windings on the portion 14 are cumulative and those on the portion 15 opposed, the arrangement being such that the portion 15 is saturated at no load by the source 17 and reversely saturated at full load by the generator current. The part 14 is not saturated over most of the working range, but may be saturated at full load. The source 17 may be a battery charged from the exciter and be in series with a part 24 of the generatorwinding, an automatic switch 25 being provided to ensure that this circuit is only closed when the exciter current is sufficient. In a modification an arrangement similar to that described is applied to the generator, the exciter being a simple generator. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 216,689, [Class 35].
