Abstract
311,806. Royce, F. H. Feb. 17, 1928. Supplying consuming devices from variable speed generators; charging batteries.-In systems on motor-cars &c. with a variable-speed dynamo a having a third brush for one terminal of the field. windings a and charging a battery a', and with a resistance a<2> normally short-circuited and thrown into the field-circuit by a switch a' operated by an electromagnet a<6> having a main coil a<10> in a shunt circuit of predetermined resistance across the terminals of the battery to prevent over-charging, the magnet a<6> is also provided with an auxiliary coil b connected as shown across the field a<1> and the resistance a<2>. The coil b normally carries negligible current, but, if the main circuit is broken or damaged, the coil b operates the switch a' and cuts the resistance a<2> into circuit so that the dynamo voltage is thus reduced to prevent damage to the field winding circuit. A cut-in switch a<5> and hand-switch a<8> are provided as in the system described in Specification 312,099.
