[Class 79 (iii)] A load-carrying platform 7 is mounted at one or each end on a four-wheeled propelling unit 3 steerable about a pivot 5 and characterized by two pairs 1, 2 of independently oscillatable half axles supported by transverse springs and driven by a motor 4 through change speed and bevel transmission gearing. With such a unit at each end, the vehicle may be moved at right angles to the normal direction of travel or turned about its own centre. The pivot 5 may be carried by the unit or the platform, steering being effected by means of a pinion engaging a toothed rim or sector 6.
