Dec. 21, 1933, No. 36021. Convention date, Dec. 30, 1932. [Class 56] [See also Groups XXII and V] Moulds for centrifugally casting fusible materials of all kinds, including glass and metals, are formed by introducing a pulverulent refractory substance, such as silica, sands, or quartz, into a shell, applying it against the wall thereof by centrifugal force, and then glazing the inner wall of the refractory material by fusion. A shell A, which may be of prismatic, cylindrical, pyramidal, or conical form carries roller tracks F, G, and is rotated about its axis to cause refractory material R introduced along its axis to be applied to the walls. The material is then dried and the inner surface thereof fused and glazed by an electric heating element L mounted on a carriage M and introduced through a hole O axially of the mould. A gauge or templet may be used to shape the surface of the material before glazing. The material N to be moulded is introduced through a second hole O<1> normally closed by a plug P. The glazed shell R may be removed after the moulding operation and used in further operations.
