Abstract

424,604. Regulating air supply to furnaces. AKT.-GES. BROWN, BOVERI, & CIE, Baden, Switzerland. May 31, 1934, No. 16235. Convention date, May 31, 1933. [Class 51 (i)] In a forced draught steam generator furnace, the blower that produces the air pressure is driven by an exhaust gas turbine and a supplementary motor the power output of which is regulated by an inertia governor driven by the main engine using the steam. As shown in Fig. 1, the blower 6 is driven by an exhaust gas turbine 7 and a continuous current motor 8 receiving current from a Leonard set comprising a generator 9 having an exciter 11 and driven by a three phase motor 10. An inertia governor 3 driven by the main engine 2 controls the pressure of oil supplied by a pipe 4 to a piston 5 connected to a regulator 12 which varies the speed of the motor 8. Fig. 2 shows a modification wherein the supplementary motor is a steam turbine 14 the supply of steam to which is controlled by a valve 13 operated by the piston 5 under the control of the governor 3. The oil pressure supplied to the piston 5 may be led from a pump driven by the main engine the pressure of the oil being controlled by the governor.
