Abstract

The ageing of rubber is retarded, and the resistance to the formation of cracks on flexing is increased by the addition to the mix from 0,1-5 per cent of alkoxy-diarylamines of the general formula R-NH-R-O-A where R is an aromatic nucleus, or a methyl substituted aromatic nucleus, and A is a primary or secondary alkyl group, containing more than two carbon atoms, but not more than two methylene carbons. The alkoxy group is preferably in the para position. Compounds mentioned are p-normal-propoxy diphenylamine, p-isopropoxy-diphenylamine, secondary butoxy diphenylamine, isobutoxy-diphenylamine, and isopentoxy-diphenylamine.
