Abstract

424,296. Road scarifiers. PRICE, F. C., Silverburn, Albert Square, Bowdon, Cheshire. Nov. 10, 1933, No. 31315. [Class 107] The tool holder of a road scarifier is so mounted as to be capable of horizontal lateral displacement against the action of springs. In the construction shown, two tool holders f are mounted on a shaft d which is mounted in the bearings h of a vertically-adjustable frame c. Springs g are interposed between the two holders and between the holders and the frame c, whereby the tools are capable of independent lateral movement when either tool encounters an obstruction. The shaft is circular in cross-section and is secured against rotation by grub-screws provided in the bearings h. The tool holders are rotatably mounted on the shaft and one formed with machined faces which bear against a skirt c<x> on the frame c, when the machine is in operation. The frame is resiliently suspended by springs e in vertical guides of an outer frame a and is resiliently connected to a structure b<1> which is adapted to be raised and lowered by a handwheel b. In a modification, the shaft d is square in cross-section and the skirt c<1> on the frame c is dispensed with.
