Abstract
423,290. Solidifying gases. MAIURI REFRIGERATION PATENTS, Ltd., and MAIURI, G., Bush House, Aldwych, London. June 8, 1934, No. 17050. [Class 8 (ii)] An expansion chamber or press m for the solidification of carbon dioxide &c. is vented during operation through a single constant orifice n followed by an abrupt enlargement; the orifice may be shaped as shown in Fig. 3 ; the liquid inlet nozzle is provided with an adjustable valve p. A gauge may be provided ; by adjusting the valve p to give a selected gauge pressure the rate of snow formation is known. The snow chamber is shown as a press chamber; carbon dioxide gas enters and leaves by pipes x, y behind the upper piston, excluding leakage of air into the chamber. Gas is drawn from a holder a by a compressor b cooled by water and gas in the exchangers c, d and passed through a liquefier e wherein it is liquefied by the coil of an absorption refrigerating machine g. The liquid passes to a storage tank i supplying the press. The gas evaporating in the tank i and that escaping from the press return, through the liquefier e and the interchanger d respectively, to the gas holder a.
