Abstract
422,858. Valve circuits for wireless reception. COLE, Ltd., E. K., Ekco Works, Priory Crescent, Southend-on-Sea, and MARTIN, A. W., 1, Thames Close, Leigh-on-Sea. July 20, 1933, No. 20463. [Class 40 (v)] An amplifier is followed by a diode detector which is disabled when signals of below a predetermined intensity are received, the cathode of the diode being connected to the cathode circuit of the amplifier whereby a change in the internal impedance of the amplifier, determined by the incoming signal, controls the release of the detector. As shown the amplifier A feeds the diode portion of the valve B through the coupling 4, the rectified signals appearing in the load resistance 5, and being applied to the triode portion of valve B through a condenser and potentiometer 8. The detector circuit also includes the cathode resistance R of valve A which when no signal is being received produces sufficient direct current potential to disable the detector. A second diode rectifier D fed from the valve A through a condenser 3 provides automatic volume control potentials which are applied through a resistance 2 to the grid of the amplifier. When signals of above a predetermined amplitude are received the impedance of valve A is thus lowered, the voltage across resistance R is diminished and the detector B released. In a modification (Fig. 2, not shown) the delay voltage on the diode B may be regulated.
