[Class 39 (iii)] [See also Group XXXVI] The heating element of an immersion heater comprises a number of one piece refractory sections f abutting end to end, each section having two holes therethrough in which are located spirally wound resistance wires b intercon. nected below the lowest section, and each section having parallel or slightly hollowed-out sides and rounded ends in cross section. A mica washer d entering the convolutions of the spirals may be arranged between the sections, and the walls of the sections may be formed with grooves for receiving a strip to clamp the sections together. Each element is enclosed in a metal tube h which may continue to the bottom of the vessel in which the heater is used. The elements surround a central tube i for enclosing a thermostat and are enclosed in a circulating tube m.
