Abstract
419,949. Spray-producers. HADEN & SONS, Ltd., G. N., St. George's Works, Trowbridge, Wiltshire, and HERRING, P. H., 60, Kingsway, London. May 19, 1933, No. 14580. [Class 69 (iii).] A liquid-fuel burner comprises a cylindrical distributing block 1, Fig. 1, formed with a fuel passage 2 and an air or steam passage 3, a joint shim 7, spacer blocks 8, 15, 24, swirl plates 13, 21, and a gland nut 25 adapted to secure the various parts together. The passage 3 ends in an annular channel 4 communicating through holes 9 in the shim 7 and holes 10, 18 in the blocks 8, 15 with tangential slots 14 in the swirl plates 13, 21 leading to central chambers 17, 22. The fuel is delivered from the passage 2 into a recess 12 in the block 8 and passes through small holes into the air slots 14 or separate slots leading to the chamber 17 where it forms with the air a turbulent mixture. The mixture issues in an atomized condition through a tapered bore 16 in the block 15 and is further atomized by air issuing from the chamber 22 between an opening 26 in the block 24 and a boss 23 on the block 15. In a modification shown in Fig. 4, designed for burning heavy or crude oil, the block 15 is formed with a longer boss 23 having a Venturi bore.
