Abstract

417,634. Engine valve gear. FERGUSON, L., FERGUSON, P., and FERGUSON, R., Newark Works, Port-Glasgow, Renfrewshire. Dec. 27, 1933, No. 36311. [Class 122 (ii).] The cylinders of a multiple-expansion engine are provided with separate admission and exhaust valves operatively interconnected to common valve motions. The spindles 4 of the steam valves 6 are connected to the spindles 5 of the exhaust valves 7 by levers 8, 9 and pin-and-slot mechanism 13, 14. The spindles 4 are connected to Stephenson's or other gears. In large cylinders, the valves may be provided with two pairs of valve spindles 4, 5, 41, 51 operatively interconnected by twin levers 8, 9. In modifications, the single or twin levers 8, 9 are arranged to one side of the cylinder axis. 417,634.
