Abstract
417,093. Aircraft propellers. RIGBY, F. G., and RIGBY, P. N. R., 25, Stubb's Gate, Newcastle, Staffordshire. Jan. 11, 1934, No. 1045. [Classes 4 and 114.] An aircraft adapted for forward motion, direct lift and hovering has two tractor screws a mounted on two longitudinal shafts on each side of the fuselage, two fans b adapted to be moved into engagement with the screws a when it is desired to obtain vertical lift, and a third fan c at the front of the machine to check forward motion. Each propeller a is shaped as shown in Fig. 2 and comprises two scoops m converging to a single ridge line n. Each fan b comprises a blank bent to a sinuous curve corresponding to the rear edges of the scoops m and in addition having its rear ends bent oppositely with respect to the axis of a sleeve capable of sliding on the propeller shaft. The fan c comprises two oppositely directed scoops and is adapted to be driven at twice the speed of a main transverse driving shaft l.
