Abstract

417,067. Spring suspensions for road vehicles. KOLBE, J., 95, Isestrasse, Hamburg, Germany. March 27, 1933, No. 9184. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Oct. 9, 1933.] [Class 108 (ii).] In order that the body of a vehicle may tilt inwardly freely owing to centrifugal force when negotiating a curve, the weight of the body is supported by means of compression links which are pivotally connected to the body at points ca, cb, and to the under frame at lower points da, db which are at a greater distance apart than the points ca, cb, the centre of gravity of the body falling within the triangle whose base is the line joining da, db and whose sides pass through the points ca, Cb. As shown diagrammatically in Fig. 1, each of the connecting links comprises two sections, 1a, 1b and 2a, 2b respectively, while additional links 4a, 5a with pivoted extensions 4b, 5b are provided for controlling the movements of the links 1a, 1b, 2a, 2b. By thus forming the links in two sections a self-restoring action is produced, but single-arm links may be employed in combination with restoring springs. A practical arrangement is shown in Fig. 2, in which the links 1b, 2b are replaced by springs 1b<SP>11> and 2b<SP>11> and toggles 6a, 6b, the extensions of the links lb, 2b are formed as angle members 1b<SP>111> and 2b<SP>111>, while the extensions 4b, 5b are continued below their pivots to form levers to the lower free ends of which are connected springs 9.
