Abstract
416,477. Hydraulic transmission of power. WILSON, W. G., Lower Chilland House, Martyr Worthy, Winchester. Dec. 14, 1932, No. 35498. [Class 69 (ii).] Hydraulic power transmission systems include driving and driven members, and at least two sets of vanes which are so connected together that the movement of liquid past them causes them to rotate relatively to one another. As shown in Fig. 1, the vane sets 12, 13 rotatably mounted on a shaft 14 have pinions 15, 16 meshing with a pinion or pinions 17 carried by the shaft, so that the sets 12, 13 necessarily rotate in relatively opposite directions, the set 13 imparting rotary motion to the fluid passing through the pipe 10. The shaft 14 may be fixed or positively rotated. In modifications, an additional central fixed set of vanes are provided, with or without additional outer sets, e.g. as shown in Fig. 6, where the outer sets 35, 36 are connected through bevel gearing 31, 30, 33, and the sets 12, 13 by gearing 17, the gears 17, 30 being carried with the central set 18. The torque converter shown in Fig. 4, has vane sets 12, 13, 18, the set 18 being carried by a sleeve 20. In a modification, the central fixed set are carried by a member 39, Fig. 7, having inclined slots receiving balls 43 engaging tracks on outer members 38, 40. The member 39 may be fixed or connected to the rotating member 23 ; if desired, the ball arrangement may be replaced by pinions on the member 39 meshing with teeth on the members 38, 40.
