Abstract

Coating-compositions, protective films, adhesives, impregnating-agents, and moulded articles are made by a process which comprises dissolving in an organic solvent a polyvinyl resin obtained by simultaneous or subsequent condensation with an aldehyde of a partially hydrolyzed vinyl ester polymer and mixing a non drying oil with the solution. The resin is preferably made, as described in Specification 351,082, [Group IV]. The solution can be used to impregnate fabrics or deposited in a layer on a fabric foundation or mixed with cork, leather dust or wood pulp and moulded. Plasticizers such as diamyl or dibutyl phthalate diacetin or triacetin can be added, as also can one or more synthetic resins such as one of the rezyls, or resins of the glyptal or coumarin type, or one or more waxes such as carnauba or montan, or fillers such as titanium oxide, zinc oxide, lead oxide, or iron oxide. In place of the pure drying oil, derivatives obtained by treating the oil with acetic anhydride or phthalic anhydride may be used. Specifications 405,986 and 416,413 also are referred to.ALSO:Coating - compositions, protective films, adhesives, impregnating-agents, and moulded articles are made by a process which comprises dissolving in an organic solvent a cellulose derivative and a polyvinyl resin obtained by simultaneous or subsequent condensation with an aldehyde of a partially hydrolysed vinyl ester polymer, and mixing a non-drying oil with the solution.
