Abstract

416,197. Endless chain conveyers. LAMSON CO., Lamson Street, Syracuse, New York, U.S.A.-(Assignees of Perry, H. R., and Jennings, C. S. ; Lamson Street, Syracuse, New York, U.S.A.) Oct. 11, 1933, No. 28074. Convention date, Aug. 25. Addition to 407,594. [Class 78 (i).] A conveyer for use in the apparatus described in the parent Specification comprises a single chain 31 to which shoe carrying racks 30, Fig. 12, are pivoted, and discs 74, 75, Fig. 8, pro. vided with pockets 76, 77 to receive certain only of the wheels 53 on the racks, these pockets maintaining the racks horizontal as they pass from one run to the other. The wheels 53 not attached to the chain are prevented from engaging with the pockets by the passage of ears 83 on the racks over guides 81 until the end of the rack carrying the wheels connected to the chain starts to descend from the run around the sprocket 60. A cam plate 85 near the end of the guide 81 engages the rounded end of the ear and directs the rack away from the guide so that the free wheel enters a pocket 76 on the disc 74, and the end of the rack carrying that wheel descends in unison with the other end. A lower cam plate 85 coacts with the lower ear of a rack approaching the sprocket along the lower run, and raises the end carrying the free wheel in unison with the other end until the free wheel is carried by a recess 76 into the space between the disc 74 and the outer face plate 70. Bars 82 for a similar purpose are provided at the other end of the conveyer. Each rack 30 comprises a support 32 to which are secured removably members 33, a toe rest 34, and a guiding member 35. The members 33 and the rest 34 are moulded from a phenol condensation product such as that known under the Registered Trade Mark " Bakelite." The guiding member 35 comprises a metal plate 50 and a fibre wear plate 51, and the wheels 53. A pin 57 connects one of the wheels to the chain 31. In a modified construction of rack, the flange 36 is so inclined that no depressions 40 are required, and the members 33 are secured directly thereto. In a further modification, the members 33 and toe rest 34 are formed integral. Specification 415,569 is referred to.
