[Class 64 (iii).] A heat-exchanger is built up of smooth sheets with frames composed of indiarubber or other yielding material disposed between successive sheets. The frames may comprise rubber covered metal skeletons. The frame shown in Fig. 2 is provided with annular portions 3, 4, 5, and 6 so that when a pile is formed of frames and sheets with corresponding apertures two pairs of passages are formed for the heat exchange media. Owing to the cut away portions 7 and 8 liquid may flow between passages 3 and 4 in the space between two successive smooth sheets, its path being sinuous as it must pass through apertures 9, 10, and 11 in the cross members of the frame. By inverting alternate frames each pair of passages communicates with alternate spaces between the plates. The apertures may be placed centrally as shown in Fig. 4, the liquid flowing as shown by the arrows from port 102 to port 110. A central aperture is provided for a clamping screw holding the pile of plates together. All four passages 156, 157, 158, 159 are shown at the bottom in the frame shown in Fig. 11. The frames are provided with lugs 120 and notches 115 and 116 or notches 137 and 138 to engage with longitudinal bar members and maintain the plates in position. Specification 397,706 is referred to.
