[Class 44.] A combined clamping and retaining means for the telescopic legs of tripod and like gun mountings comprises means to clamp the outer member 4 to the inner member 5, such as a divided band 6 which can be tightened around a slotted portion of the member 4 by a screw 15, and means positively to retain the telescoping parts, such as a spring-controlled pawl 11 engaging teeth 22. The pawl is preferably mounted on the screw 15 between the jaws of the band 6 so as to be clamped when the band is tightened by the screw.
