[Class 59.] The movable roller of a roller mill is supplied with fluid pressure from a central source for the uniform adjustment of the bearings at the two ends of the roller, the fluid pressure being relievable at will adjacent the roller or at the mill. As shown a pump a, Fig. 1, supplies liquid to an accumulator b and the pressure is transmitted through pressure regulating valve g to a conduit e from which branches f, provided with stop valves h, are led to each bearing of the moving roller of the mill. Each roller i, Fig. 2, is movable by a plunger l bearing on a flat portion of a lever arm j, the plunger being adjustable laterally on brackets m by screwed rods o to vary the leverage on the arm j. The fluid is led from a stop-valve p to a pressure regulating valve q connected by pipes q<1> to the plunger l at each end of the roller. The valve q is connected by linkage to a hand-lever r whereby the valve supplies pressure fluid to the plungers l or opens them to exhaust through the pipe q<3>. The lever r may be connected to a lever r<4> operating a clutch k<1> by which the feed rollers k are thrown into gear, the position of the lever r<4> being adjustable in relation to the lever r by a screwed rod r<5>. By moving the plunger l laterally the pressure at each end of a roller may be varied or the pressure of one set of rolls varied in relation to the other rolls. The accumulator may be dispensed with.
