Abstract

<PICT:0411779/III/1> In the production of sulphuric acid from small quantities of sulphur dioxide or from gases containing a low proportion of sulphur dioxide the furnace gases in a crude hot state are brought into indirect heat-exchange with the contact chamber in order to maintain the latter at reaction temperature. In the illustrated apparatus the burner gases pass through the jacket m surrounding the converter e, then through the purifier p and finally through the contact chamber. In another form the jacket is replaced by tubes extending through the reaction chamber.
