410,497. Sewing-machines. BRITISH UNITED SHOE MACHINERY CO., Ltd., GOULDBOURN, J., KEALL, F. B., and KESTELL, T. A., Belgrave Road, Leicester. Oct. 11, 1932, No. 5819/34. Divided on 410,463. [Class 112.] The invention relates to boot-sole sewing- machines of the general character described in Specification 23478/10, [Class 112]. In particular the invention relates to the needle and awl driving mechanism of the welting machine described in Specification 410,463. The main shaft 3 has two cranks 5 and 7 for actuating the curved needle 9 and awl 11. A second shaft 13 parallel to the main shaft 3 is rotated by gears at twice the speed of the main shaft. The shaft 13 carries two cranks 15, 17 which co-operate with the cranks 5 and 7 to impart driving movements to the needle and awl via the levers 41, 43, 61, 63. These operate links 33, 35 and 59, 57, to actuate the needle and awl driving segments. The needle is lubricated by oil from a chamber 77, Fig. 2. This oil flows down the hollow bore of the needle bar and is forced downwards by the plunger 91 operated by the rod 109 and arm 107 which is actuated each time the machine comes to rest.
