Abstract

409,965. Lubricating wheels. MATTHEWS, E. F., Elm Cottage, Watford Road, Wembley, Middlesex. Aug. 21, 1933, No. 23297. [Classes 12 (ii) and 12 (iii).] A hollow wheel hub 13 containing lubricant is rotatable on a bearing sleeve 2 fixed to an axle 1. A lubricant-collecting funnel 6 is secured to the sleeve 2 and has a nose 18 extending into the oil chamber of the hub 13. Oil pockets 19 are formed in the outer faces of the oil chamber. At low speeds the oil in the pockets 19 drips into the funnel 6, and at high speeds the nose diverts lubricant into the funnel 6. Oil from the funnel 6 passes through an annular groove 9 and axial and radial passages 10, 11, in the sleeve 2 into wedge-shaped recesses 12 between the sleeve 2 and wheel hub. The oil returns to the oil chamber through passages 15.
