Abstract
Condensation products capable of being hardened are prepared by reacting formaldehyde or a polymer thereof with a mixture of an aromatic monosulphamide having no other nuclear substituent comprising an amino-group, a phenolic substance and a carbamide. The components may be condensed simultaneously and in stages using various condensation agents. In examples: (1) p-toluene sulphamide, phenol, urea and aqueous formaldehyde are condensed in the presence of phosphoric acid to yield a resin soluble in organic solvents such as acetone, spirit and benzol mixtures and glycol monomethyl ether; (2) the resin of example (1) is dissolved in a mixture of spirit and benzol and used, with or without the addition of a white pigment, as a varnish. Layers impregnated with this varnish may be pressed into boards, the interior layers being, if desired, impregnated only with a phenol-formaldehyde resin. (3) Phenol, urea and formaldehyde are condensed in the presence of sodium hydroxide and the product, after acidification with phosphoric acid is condensed with p-toluene sulphamide to yield a resin. (4) The resin of example (3) is worked up with cellulose and a white pigment to yield a moulding compound.
