Abstract

408,860. Washing and wringing machines. BURRY, A. A., 1862, Bloor Street West, Toronto, Canada. Aug. 22, 1933, No. 23352. Convention date, Aug. 29, 1932. [Class 138 (ii).] In a washing-machine wherein liquid is circulated by a pump comprising a piston 27 reciprocated within a cylinder 24, apertures 26 are formed by lugs 25 around the bottom of the cylinder and a perforated dished false bottom 29 of the shape shown is provided in the receptacle 22. The central upturned portion of the bottom 29 is in the form of a grid 31 so that the outwardly directed streams of liquid coming from the apertures 26 on the down stroke of the pump are not appreciably impeded. The cylinder is provided with a removable cover 32 having grooves 33 communicating with a nozzle 35 and covered by a perforated plate 34. After washing the clothes &c. in the receptacle 22 they are transferred inside the cylinder 24 and the piston is reciprocated more slowly to squeeze water therefrom which passes through the nozzle 35 to which a hose may be attached. A nozzle 36 for the supply of rinsing water to the cylinder 24 may be provided. The piston consists of a waterfilled rubber bag 28. The piston is reciprocated by means of a piston and cylinder mechanism 8, 9 fed from one of two automatically reversing rotary pumps 10 or 13. The pump 10 is of greater capacity than the pump 13 and is used for reciprocating the piston during the washing operation and the pump 13 is used for reciprocating the piston for squeezing the clothes &c.
