[Class 18.] The shell of a drawer-and -shell cigarette carton is provided with a hinged flap which carries matches and which is automatically swung away from the packet to present the matches for use when the drawer is withdrawn from the shell. As shown in Fig. 3, the front side 1 of the shell 2 is slit to form the flap 5 which has fixed to its inner face the matches 8 and which is connected by a flexible strip 10 with the bottom of the drawer 3 so that the flap is also automatically closed when the drawer is pushed into the shell ; the matches may be held in a pocket fixed to the inner face of the flap and a striking surface 9 is fixed to the inner face of the closing flap 7 of the drawer or in any other suitable position. The flap may have a tail which is engaged by the bottom of the drawer to close the flap and one or more projections may be arranged on the drawer to engage the tail to swing the hinged flap to the open position or the edge of the bottom flap of the drawer may be so arranged. In another form a resilient projecting member arranged on the hinged flap is compressed between such flap and the bottom flap of the drawer when the hinged flap is held closed by the closing flap of the drawer so that, when such closing flap is released by withdrawal of the drawer, the hinged flap is automatically opened by the resilient member ; the resilient member may be arranged on the bottom flap of the drawer and may be positioned so that it engages over an edge of the bottom flap of the drawer or of the hinged flap respectively.
