[Class 40 (v).] In an ultra short wave transmitter comprising a generator, coupling means and an aerial, modulation is effected by a mechanical movement of either of the latter effected electrically, mechanically or acoustically. In one embodiment generators 1, 2, Fig. 1, are coupled to conductors 3 in close relationship with an aerial 4, the latter carrying a dielectric diaphragm 7 caused to oscillate at the modulation frequencies. In order to impose a steady load on the generators, an auxiliary phantom aerial, or an aerial radiating the same signals in a different direction, is coupled to the generators and vibrated in opposite phase. In another embodiment one of the feeder wires 8, Fig. 2, is divided into two parts by a vibratable diaphragm 9 with its edge disposed opposite a rigid edge 10. The conductor 8 may contain a plurality of such couplings operating together.
