Abstract

Molten asphalt is emulsified by mixing with a dilute aqueous solution of alkali and abietic acid. Example:--2 parts of colophony and 3 parts of caustic soda are added in succession to 576 parts of boiling water and 576 parts of Calol asphalt added with stirring; alternatively 516 parts of the water used may be added after the asphalt.
