Abstract

405,734. Brake transmitting-mechanism. JOHNS, E. A., The Hutt, Rushden, Northamptonshire. Sept. 7, 1932, No. 24939. [Class 103 (i).] Compensating or equalizing transmitting- mechanism for a four-wheel brake system is mounted in a casing g and comprises a pair of floating levers carried directly or indirectly by a lever or levers mounted on a fixed pivot, force being applied to an intermediate point of the floating levers and and the brake connections being connected directly or indirectly to the ends of the levers. As shown in Fig. 4, a lever 27 mounted on a fixed shaft 28 within the oil-filled casing 11 has pivoted to it a floating lever 3 connected by cables R1, R2 to the rear wheel brakes. A lever 29 is connected to the other end of the lever 27 and to a further floating lever 5 which is connected by cables F1, F2 to the front-wheel brakes. A cable 30 from the pedal or servomotor is connected to a point on the lever 29 which may be adjusted according to the pressure ratio desired as between the front and rear brakes. Where a servo-motor is used this may be fixed to or disposed within the casing. Tn Fig. 3, the levers 21 turning on a fixed pivot 22 carry at one end floating levers 3, 5 and are connected at the other end to one pair of brakes by cables F1, F2. The lovers 3, 5 are connected to the other pair of brakes by cables Rl, R2 and to a floating lever 24 by links 23. The lever 24 is connected to the pedal &c., by cable 25. In Fig. 1, a pair of floating levers 3, carried respectively by a pair of levers 13 turning on a fixed shaft 12 are connected each to a pair of brakes by cables R1, R2 and a bar 14 mounted in flared openings in the levers 3 so that it may turn in the horizontal plane to equalize or distribute the pressure applied to the levers, is connected by a cable 6 to the pedal &c. The points of connection of the cable 6 to the bar 14 and of the bar to the levers 3, may be adjustable to distribute the pressure applied to the brakes in the desired ratio. According to the Provisional Specification, the compensating mechanism may comprise differential toothed gearing, the cage containing the bevelled satellites having the primary movement imparted to it and the large gears being connected in a compensating manner to the pairs of brakes to be operated.
