Abstract
Steel alloys for boiler shells and high-pressure pipes contains 0.3-5 per cent of copper and one or more of the following: 0.2-6 per cent of nickel, 0.1-5 per cent of chromium, 0.4-9 per cent of manganese, 0.1-3 per cent of silicon, 0.02-2 per cent of vanadium, 0.2-2 per cent of molybdenum, 0.02-3 per cent of cobalt, and 0.02-3 per cent of titanium. The total content of the alloying components is preferably not more than 10 per cent, and the carbon preferably not more than 0.6 per cent. The alloys are annealed by a single heat-treatment below the Ac1 point, for example at 350-700 DEG C., and the annealing may be interrupted when maximum hardness has been attained or may be continued until the strength has returned to or fallen below its original value. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 346,029 and 373,453.
