Abstract

403,870. Tube joints. KREIDEL, H., 6, Moritzstrasse, Wiesbaden, Germany. May 16, 1933, No. 14178. Convention date, Nov. 28, 1932. [Class 99 (i).] A tube b is jointed in a fluidtight manner to a connector a by a metallic packing ring c which is compressed by a nut d screwing onto said connector. The packing ring is normally a loose fit on the tube and is provided at its inner end with a recess g forming one or more steps c<2> ; the other end h may be shaped in a similar manner, but preferably it is made of somewhat larger diameter than the body of the ring and is conically tapered. The opening f in the connector is funnel-shaped, and the surface of the nut d abutting against the packing ring is either spherical or conical. The construction is such that upon tightening the coupling nut the packing ring is moved axially towards the connector, whereupon the thin-walled portion c<1> of the ring is bent inwardly to conform to the surface f and the step c<2> digs deeply into the surface of the tube ; the end h of the ring is also deformed to grip the tube. The recess of the packing ring may locate a second packing ring k of hard or soft material.
