402,981. Valve amplifying circuits. HAZELTINE CORPORATION, 15, Exchange Place, Jersey, New Jersey, U.S.A.-(Assignees of Wheeler, H. A. ; 18, Melbourne Road, Great Neck, New York, U.S.A.) March 25, 1933, No. 9061. Convention date, April 6, 1932. [Class 40 (v).] Automatic volume control is effected by producing a unidirectional voltage directly proportional to a signal voltage by a detector 73 and applying it to the grid of a post-detector valve 74 of the variable-mu type, in which the product of the increment in grid bias and the mutual conductance is nearly constant. The detector 73 is a twoelectrode detector, as described in Specification 398,882, in which the unidirectional component of the rectified voltage is developed across resistances 32, 33. The control voltage, available at the junction 77 of the resistances, is applied to the lowfrequency amplifier 74 through resistances 82, 50. Control voltages are also supplied through a resistance 79 to a highfrequency amplifier 70, and, through the resistance 82, to an intermediate-frequency amplifier 72.
