Abstract

402,676. Drying fabrics. GESSNER AKT.-GES., E., Aue, Saxony, Germany. May 19, 1933, No. 14586. Convention date, July 7, 1932. [Class 34 (i).] A drying chamber is subdivided by partitions into compartments, in each of which there is a separate conveyer which carries festooned fabric, the conveyers being so arranged that the speed of each can be independently regulated. For the formation of the loops, each compartment may be provided with a feed roller driven with alternate acceleration and retardation ; and the bars on which the loops hang may be rotated. In one form, there are two drying compartments I and II, each provided with an endless conveyer 14 working on rollers 15, these conveyers being separately driven. Hot air for drying enters through channels 17, and passes out through suction channels 18 to heaters 19, whence the air passes to the same or another compartment. By adjusting the heaters 19, the temperature of the air may be regulated separately for each compartment. After preliminary drying at IV, the web 21 enters compartment I, where the loop former VI lays the web in festoons on the conveyer. The web is fed to compartment II by rollers 24 and a travelling apron 25, which may be furnished with a spreading device. Other forms show various arrangements of adjacent and superposed chambers. In each case the loops increase in length as the web progresses from one compartment to another, the speeds of the conveyers being lower in successive compartments. The air may flow through the chambers in the opposite direction to the web, and its temperature may be raised from say 35‹ C. in the last stage of treatment of the fabric to 90‹ C. or more in the first.
